The Fenlands

Boston is surrounded by large agricultural areas of natural wetland. The Fens, otherwise known as The Fenlands, are a large area of marshy ground covering most of Boston and the surrounding region, stretching as far as Lincoln to the north, all the way down to Ely in the south. The Fens cover a large area of South Lincolnshire as well as parts of Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. This marshy region supports a large amount of wildlife, allowing numerous local species to flourish in its rich ecosystem. It’s no surprise that this area is perfect for agriculture and farming which contributes to its glorious landscape. The Fenlands can be enjoyed from all directions surrounding Boston. RSPB Frampton Marsh is a popular bird-watching hotspot located in the heart of The Fens.
